1919 Walking Liberty Half Dollar
While there were no changes for the Walking Liberty half dollar in 1919 the U.S. ratified the 18th Amendment authorizing Prohibition and alcoholic beverages were banned throughout America. It is the only amendment to the Constitution that was later repealed by another amendment, the 21st. Pancho Villa creates havoc along the southern border with Mexico.
Mintage of the Walking Liberty half dollar is steady but low for 1919. Philadelphia produced only 962,000 coins, Denver saw 1,165,000 minted and San Francisco produced 1,552,000. Varieties of clashed dies and doubled Ds have been found on these half dollars.
