1921 Walking Liberty

1921 was the 2nd lowest mintage of all the Walking Liberty halves. Striking problems continue with the silver half dollar and it's difficult to find gem quality coins. It was a year of recession and business just didn't need more small coinage. Morgan and Peace silver dollars were the big things at the U.S. Mints. It was in July of 1921 that President Harding signs a congressional resolution ending the state of war with Germany, Austria and Hungary, peace is formally declared on August 1st. The tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery is officially dedicated by the President.

Philadelphia produces only 246,000 coins, Denver a mere 208,000 and San Francisco mints 548,000 of the half dollars. The 1921-S is known as the "King of the Walkers", it is a key date and mint mark for any full collection of the half dollars and is difficult to find in AU or mint state condition. Few were saved and it is a true conditional rarity.
