1927 Walking Liberty

No Walking Liberty halves were produced in 1924, 1925 or 1926. 1927 again saw only the half dollar being produced at San Francisco with 2,392,000 being minted. The Ford Model A is introduced replacing the Model T after 19 years of production, the Roxy Theater opens in New York City and Pan Amerian Airlines makes it first flight from Key West bound for Havana.

The 1927-S seems to have been minted in extreme haste and fully struck coins are super rare. I've seen specimens with Miss Libertys left hand missing. Why the hasty job? Since no half dollars had been struck since 1923 business was in dire need of the coins and little regard was given to their handling. Many examples exist with the central portion of the obverse and reverse terribly struck and or simply missing.
