1928 Walking Liberty

For 1928 the Mint again turned to San Francisco for production and minted only 1,940,000 of the silver half dollars. Interestingsly examples have turned up over the years as 1928-Ds...beware, they are counterfeits since half dollars were not produced in either Philadelphia or Denver in 1928. What's goin on in the United States? Charles Lindbergh receives the Medal of Honor for his first transatlantic flight and Amelia Earhart becomes the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic. And the public is treated to its first view of Mickie and Minnie Mouse when they star in the animation "Plane Crazy."

Varieties for this issue include a small "S" and a large "S" but any coin that is fully struck is rare. Libertys hand and skirt lines and the Eagles breast feathers are generally very weak.
