Franklin Delano Roosevelt became President of the United States, promptly ordered a banking holiday, declared it illegal for private citizens to own gold and removed the countrys monetary system from the gold standard. Other headlines of the day covered the outlaws - Pretty Boy Floyd, clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker and Machine Gun Kelly. Once again, San Francisco is the only mint to produce the Walking Liberty half dollar and only 1,786,000 were produced.
The Walking Liberty half dollar was produced for the first time since 1929. They are plentiful in both circulated and mint state grades in relatively good strikes. It is the last date of what are considered early date Walkers.
