1937 Walking Liberty

Proof versions of the Walking Liberty half dollar were again minted in 1937 with 5,728 created. The Golden Gate Bridge opens to traffic, Popeye is immortalized by a statue of the character in Crystal City, Tx by spinach growers and Amelia Earhart flies into mystery when she disappears in her attempt to be the first female pilot to fly around the world.

The Philadelphia mint again led production with 9,522,000 coins produced. Denver added another 1,676,000 and San Francisco produced 2,090,000. Some might be led to think that because of its lower mintage the Denver version would be scarcer, however that's not the case. The San Francisco production tended to be weaker and have problems and is therefore harder to find in fully struck mint state grades.
