Production of the Walking Liberty half dollar is slightly less in 1944. The big news of the year is the landing of troops beginning the invasion of Europe on D-Day, June 6, 1944. IBM builds the first programmable calculator and "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" takes to the air for the first time on radio.
Philadelphia produces 28,206,000 coins, Denver 9,966,800 and San Francisco mints 8,904,000 silver half dollars. Walkers from Philadelphia are available in all grades, well struck and with great eye appeal. Denver and San Francisco are a bit tougher to find in high mint state grades and bring a premium. Several varieties of the silver coin are well known.
