The Barber Half Dollar, minted from 1892 to 1915, was designed by Charles Barber, Engraver of the Mint, when a design contest hosted by the US Mint failed to produce designs worthy of production. During the contest there was also a conflict with the artists first asked by the Mint to compete regarding the pay they would receive. So Mr. Barber was pressed into service to design the new half dollar, quarter and dime.

The Barber Half Dollar is 30.6mm in diameter, weighs 12.50 grams, has a reeded edge and is composed of .900 fine silver.

While there are no great rarities in this series there are several key dates that have shown moderate growth in value and these include the 1982 O, 1982-, 1987 O, 1897 S and 1914. As in all coin purchases make sure of what you are buying. It is highly recommended that coins certified by NGC, PCGS and ANACS be considered over raw, uncertified coins.
